Ingredients

  • ¼ cup sourdough starter (active or discard)
  • ¼ cup cultured buttermilk or plain yogurt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey (for children over 1 year old)
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt
  • Whipped cream cheese or whipped cream, for topping
  • Sliced strawberries, for topping

Instructions

  1. Mix all the batter ingredients together.
  2. Fill a snack cup with ½ cup of batter.
  3. Microwave for 1 minute.
  4. Top with a dollop of cream cheese or whipped cream and sliced strawberries.

Mom tips

  • No sourdough starter? Mix 1 cup flour with 1 cup filtered water and let it sit overnight. Short on time? Just thin the batter with a little extra buttermilk or yogurt.
  • Honey is only for children over 1 year old.
  • Microwave and oven times vary by appliance. Always check food temperature before serving.
